Wyn Dog
We said goodbye to our friend Wyn last week, wonderful Border Collie owned by Amanda and Geoff Brown and loved by everyone
who knew her. Be at peace Wyn!
Coconut Classic, York PA (Fur Fun Flyball Tournament)
Reba did great at the NUT! She competed beautifully in several heats, not fast enough to get her Flyball Dog title but
she has something like 12 points now! No acting frightened off the box, although she did steal the ball once. I'll
update her point total when our wonderful Count, Geoff Brown, does the stats for the tournament. Reba looked really good though,
running out with enthusiasm and confidence. Athens here we come!
Our extraordinary photographer, Sam Bennett, let me try his Nikon D700 since I'm thinking of a camera upgrade. It's super fast, low noise, now if I can
just figure out the focus. Photographing flyball is a challenge! Kudos to those who get great pictures!
Looks like Kazul racing days are over. He has 2 bad disks in his back, diagnosed in the spring by Dr. John Sherman of Vethab
in Raleigh NC. Kazul received a course of medications and then therapy at Vethab until the tragic death of Dr. Sherman. His
death was a terrible shock to everyone, his loss will be felt by many in the sport dog community as well as those who knew
him. He was an amazing diagnostician and a kind man. There are many dogs out there who owe their rehabilitation to his
abilities.
Meanwhile, Reba is progressing with her flyball training and been doing warm-ups in tournaments for some
time now. She even has 1 point! She tends to get spooked, for example when turning off the box if she sees the box judge she
may drop the ball. She's getting closer all the time though, and is even passing one of our dogs without much problem.
She'll be back in the lanes later this month at the Coconut Classic!
The Animal Protection Society of Durham sponsored a Lure Coursing Fun Night last night. Dogs could
give it a try for a $5 donation. The idea is to chase the plastic bag lure that's pulled
around a course set up in a large fenced field. It was great fun, Reba and a bunch of her
friends caught on quickly! Raine, Fletch, Basil, Godiva, and Tumble from our flyball club all gave it a spin and loved it!
Hopefully the APS will do this every month!
Reba and I kept Mom company on her drive to NJ this weekend, we visited friends and relatives and
had a GREAT time! Got to meet Marco (here's a picture of him running through a tunnel) and catch up with Aunt Irene, Ruth,
cousin Phyllis and Duncan!
Marco is a cute little guy and has learned lots of cool stuff in the short time he's been
part of Linn's family - good boy!
This just in from Molly Goldston of Saving Grace Animal Adoptions. Please give if you can:
Dear
Volunteers and supporters,
I want to reach out to you and ask for your support at this
time. We have experienced an unprecedented shortage of donations this year and will soon be unable to continue our program
if we are not soon in better financial standing. Saving Grace has been a very successful program since 2004 and has helped
thousands of homeless animals in our community find loving homes. I am asking you to consider making
a gift to Saving Grace to help us through this time. It saddens me to think of the animals we are turning away regularly
and I hope to soon resume bringing them into our program. Please reach out to your friends and contacts and encourage them
to make a gift as well. Saving Grace is a non-profit organization and all donations are tax-deductible. You can view our
donations page on the website at www.savinggracenc.org. We are most in need of financial gifts to assist with vet care and accumulated
veterinary expenses.
Thank
you so much for your support. The animals depend on you to provide them with a much needed and well appreciated second chance
in life.
